Classically trained pianist Sharman, 25, might be out of action when it comes to playing music after breaking his wrist in January, but the medal hopeful has shown great determination by not letting his injury get in the way of competing on the track.
"I'm still struggling to hold myself in the blocks in the set position,” Sharman told The Guardian.
"The fracture in my wrist isn't healed. X-rays showed the bones are still broken.
“It hurts, and the screw holding it together is too long, it's protruding. But it is what it is and I'll make do."
The European Championship contender and former timekeeper on TV show
Gladiators, did more than ‘make do’ in the IAAF World Challenge in Madrid last month, however, where he breasted the tape in a wind-assisted, handheld time of 12.9 seconds.
"I don't care whether it was hand timing or windy, that was well inside a personal best run for me," he added.
"All the Americans were there and I just ran away from the field right the way through to the line.
“It was spot on. The only thing I could have done better on that day was react better to the gun.”
With the fastest time in Europe this year currently 13.27 by Czech Republic’s
Petr Svoboda, a podium finish in Barcelona could be for the taking for Sharman if he can remain on song.
