World 800m record holder David Rudisha will cap an incredible few weeks when he is made a Maasai elder, spikesmag.com reports.
The Kenyan middle-distance star chipped 0.02 off Wilson Kipketer’s world 800m mark in Berlin last month and seven days later he lowered the time a second time – to 1:41.01 – in Rieti. Last weekend he finished completed a brilliant season by cruising to victory for Africa in the
IAAF Continental Cup.
Now his family, peers and elders will offer him a consecration that will crown home a Maasai elder.
“He has changed the way the young people in Kilgoris look at athletics and sports.
His performance has given them new hope and, like a true Maasai, his welcome party will have plenty to show of the Maasai culture,” Andew Sunkuli, Rudisha’s uncle and chairman of the celebrations committee, told the Daily Nation newspaper.
