Idowu to go red to get into 'gold mode'

Red often signifies danger in the wild, but when Phillips Idowu dyes his hair that colour for the European Championships in Barcelona next month, he hopes it will spell trouble for his opposition, spikesmag.com reports.

The World champion triple jumper has yet to fire on all cylinders this season and finished a disappointing second at the European Team Championships in Bergen last weekend behind Viktor Kuznetsov

However, the proud father of two believes once he’s dyed his hair back to red, he will enter into ‘gold mode.’

“I was second in this competition last year and went on to win the World Championship,” he told the Daily Express.

“I’ll probably do the same this summer. I just have to make sure it all comes together by the Europeans.

“I am trying to be a responsible dad, that’s why my hair is like this, not coloured. I’m not in gold mode right now, I’m in technical mode.

“When I’m ready for the gold medal, you’ll see the red head come back.”
