German tower runner Thomas Dold created history by landing his fifth straight Empire State Building Run-Up title, spikesmag.com reports.

Dold, 25, became the third man to record five victories - alongside Australian Paul Crake and American Al Waquie - in the grueling annual New York race.

The German completed the 86 flights of stairs in a time of 10:16 – some 40 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

“To be named along with Paul Crake as a five-time winner is a big honour,” said Dold.

Melissa Moon, 40, a two-time World Mountain Running champion, clinched victory in the women’s race in her debut race up the iconic building. The New Zealander crossed the line in 13:13 to also win by 40 seconds.

“This will go at the top of my resume as the most prestigious thing I’ve done,” Moon said.
