‘Extreme High Jump’ will be showcased at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham next month as part of an exciting new innovation, spikesmag.com reports.
The competition will pit leading British high jumpers up against the very best BMX-riders and inline skaters. UKA hope the event will help show how the sport of athletics plays a strong role in extreme sports.
World Inline skating champion
Jenna Downing, 21, who competes in Birmingham, said: “I’ve always enjoyed watching athletics on TV but never thought I’d actually get a chance to compete against athletes, especially in the high jump,” she said. “It’s a great idea and I can’t wait to show-off my jumping skills on my skates.”
Contestants jump over a ‘laser bar’ while skills such as style, flips and technical difficulty are assessed by the viewing audience.
