Former world 400m champion Ana Guevara is now a passionate golfer who will lend her name to a new pro-am golf tournament held in Cuba, spikesmag.com reports.
The now retired Mexican sprinter, who besides winning the 2003 world title also won the 2004 Olympic silver medal, had been a regular visitor to the Caribbean island and
hopes the Ana Guevara Cup can boost the profile of the country.
“
I hope this can be a vehicle that opens doors for the sport in Cuba,” Guevara said. “I am back doing something new, a sport that almost no one knew me for.”
She hopes the event staged from Oct 13-17 will be attract more than 140 Mexicans to the resort of
Varadero east of Havana.
Guevara’s best round is in her low 90s.
