Trey Hardee sits the Pop Quiz
It’s world decathlon champion Trey Hardee’s turn to take the spikesmag.com Pop Quiz. We discover his passion for cheesy Eighties rock music, a liking for oatmeal and why he would like to feature in the women’s pole vault…
If anyone could play you in a movie who would it be and why?
Someone said I look that guy from Prison Break. I never saw the show, but I guess that guy. (spikesmag.com discovered this was Wentworth Miller and Trey really does look like him!).
What did you eat for breakfast today?
I had oatmeal, vitamins, a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee.
What’s the least favourite part of your body?
My right ankle. I’ve had some problems with it in the past. I’ve sprained it a lot. It’s permanently discoloured.
What is the one thing you take with you around the athletics circuit?
My Blackberry.
If you could star in one athletics event other than your own, what would it be and why?
The women’s pole vault. One, it's the pole vault and two, you would earn more money being a pretty girl than a pretty guy!
If you weren’t an athlete what would you be doing?
Either graphic design or architecture. That was my major for a couple of years before I decided to get real serious about track and field. I really enjoy working with my hands and putting things on paper before turning them into real things.
What’s been the greatest moment of your life?
My collective experience in Europe in 2009. I never imagined anything more perfect than the way last summer went.
What colour is Wednesday?
It is blue. Why? It was the first colour that popped into my head and I think every day of the week is coloured blue.
If you could save one thing if your house was on fire what would it be?
I would save my dog, Dignan.
What is your favourite karaoke tune?
Some 80s cheesy rock n roll, probably something from Journey.
If you could play any sport what would it be?
I would say professional golf because you can be the 900th ranked golfer in the world and still make millions.
If you could have five dinner party guests, who would they be and why?
I’d have Chelsea Johnson (the world pole vault silver medallist and Trey’s girlfriend) because she throws the best dinner parties and would make healthy food. Guitarist John Mayer, just to meet him and maybe jam with him afterwards. Jim Thorpe (the 1912 Olympic pentathlon and decathlon champion). Leonardo da Vinci would have been a cool guy to meet – I would ask him what he was working on right now and what other invention he has planned. And Franklin D. Roosevelt because of some of the things he stood for and the fact he inspired a nation and led us out of a depression.
