Kerron Clement on the story of the picture

The three men in this picture took gold, silver and bronze for the USA in the 400m hurdles at the Beijing Olympics. From left to right, Angelo Taylor, Bershawn Jackson and Kerron Clement are pictured looking mean and moody after their achievement in the Bird's Nest. Clement chats to spikesmag.com about the story of the picture.

“This picture was taken after the 2008 Olympic final – the day after our race on the Today Show. All three of us appeared with Meredith Vieria and Matt Lauer.

"It was a tremendous feeling to appear on the Today Show as part of the 1-2-3. We made history and not many people can say that. It was special to me because it was my first Olympics and I was just really honoured to appear.

"It was a great thing because it shows I’m established, although I was really nervous because it was a nationwide TV show. Thankfully, I kept my composure and I had a great interview and I even remember recording the show.

"The hooded tops... oh gosh. I don’t know about the picture because I am more of a fashion model. I like high fashion and commercial fashion but every photographer is different. It’s not my favourite picture, but it’s a nice picture.

"We [the three if us] are rivals but we are cool. I was grateful to win silver, it was my first Olympics and I have the 2012 Games in London to look forward to. I was very excited because I love people supporting me.”
