US shot putter Reese Hoffa talks turns and throws

The play time is over and the real work for next season has begun, though for some reason it is a lot harder for me to get started this year.

I have had a lot of fun playing video games and playing a lot of golf.  I guess me playing the Augusta national this year will not happen; I will have to do a better job getting back to people.  Lucky for me I have some good friends with the New York Athletic Club that might be able to get me on the course some time after the Masters during the spring.

As for training it is a slow process this year by design so I can gain a better understanding of the throw which I may have been missing from last year's season.

Though last season was great with my continued consistency and I hope to carry it over to next season.  So this fall I have been doing more stands and half turns so that I can make sure that the finish of the throw is better than last year.

For some reason last year I had been finishing the ball with more of a glancing finish instead of pushing straight through the ball.  It has been a while since I have spent so much time with half turns and stand throws.  I think I have one more week of stand throws and half turns and then we will move to full throws.

We are working on moving straight through the ring to the finish and being more efficient through the entire throw.  I have been watching a lot film of my throws from last year and I think that with the adjustments that we are making I should be more consistent with throws over 22 meters.  I say this now and I have not taken a single full throw this year and who knows if what I have changed will make a difference.

I think this is the crazy thing about throwing it is a series of guesses that we hope will work.  Don is one of best guessers in the business of throwing and has done a great job of leading me in the right direction throwing.

Lastly, the sixth installment of Guitar hero came out this week and I am looking forward to spending as day or two playing it.  There is nothing better than playing guitar hero after a long day of training and the set list on the game looks like it could be a lot of fun and on my big screen TV it should look even better.
