Hey everyone
Even though I’m sat here writing my blog with that aching feeling of just having started winter training again after a three-week break in Miami it is good to be back.
Thankfully, on this occasion I only took about ten days complete rest from running, so it hasn’t been as hard getting back into the swing of training again.
I’m carrying out a lot of long runs at the moment in Epping Forest – where Liz Yelling the Great Britain Marathoner also trains and I’ve bumped into her a few times. I find the long runs of up to an hour quite psychologically tough and with some longer runs to come it is not going to get any easier.
Besides reawakening those muscles to cope with the stresses and strains of training, I’m also back learning how to drive once more. However, after a packed summer of racing and my time away in Florida I haven’t been in the car for four months.
I’m going out two days a week at the moment with my driving instructor and although my clutch control needs a bit of work I’ve managed to adapt quite well to being behind the wheel again.
I probably need to go out more than twice a week and perhaps I should drive with my flat-mate Monty (British 100m record holder Montell Douglas), although she is not as patient as me, and also drive really fast, so I’m not sure I should be picking up too many of her driving tips!
I have not had too many disasters driving, although I wish more motorists could be more understanding to learner drivers. They don’t have a lot of patience and can be quite intimidating and that is usually when I end up stalling the car. I am quite a patient person and I promise I’ll be a lot more understanding to people learning to drive.
Hopefully, though, it won’t take too long to pass my test and I’ve set my heart on buying a cream and black Mini Cooper.
My other great passion in music and I’m back singing again at my church which is based in Putney. I also sang a solo at my coach’s wedding just before I went away to Miami. The bride and groom (Ayo Falola) gave me a list of ten songs from which I could chose one. I ended up selecting Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion. I was a lot more nervous than I normally I am, but thankfully it went well and it was an amazing wedding.
Until the next time
Maz
