No Crystal Palace but bring on Beijing

29/07/2008 10:05:03

Well,

Since my last post, in terms of athletics and racing, I have not done much to set the world of athletics on fire…
Hmmmmm, I hear you ask, not necessarily the best preparation for an Olympic Games.

However, allow me to explain!

Since my qualification for Beijing, I began to prepare for my final race at the Aviva London Grand Prix on July 26, however, a grumbling niggle in my thigh, was not allowing to put in place the quality training sessions that I needed to perform at my best, so a decision was made by my coach Michael and my physio Mark to withdraw me from the race. I must admit I did sulk for about 48 hours, but I quickly realised that there is a much bigger party in Beijing and I must attend, FIT and HEALTHY.

So: Fit and Healthy I am now and absolutely itching to get to China.  There is such a buzz from the training centre at Lee Valley and all my friends and family are so excited. I have received some beautiful good luck cards from friends and fans. Although the best one has to be the giant card from my little sisters primary school with over 100 personalised good luck minicards from all the kids stuck inside!!

I can’t wait, in fact, I packed the day I received my Olympic kit. I didn’t try anything on as I want it to feel brand new when I put it on Beijing, so if it is two sizes too small, I apologise in advance for any indecencies aired on TV!

Speaking of which I have been watching a lot of videos from previous Olympics to help with the mental side of preparation, I just try and imagine that I have been there before so I am not so daunted by the crowds when I do arrive in the arena. Although, I don’t think there is enough mental prep that can prepare you for the real thing!

So, hopefully instead of imagining it, in less than three weeks I will actually be living it!
